African Water and Sanitation regulators’ meeting ends in Uganda

The 2nd Eastern and Southern Africa Water and Sanitation (ESAWAS) Regulators Association meeting ended today in Uganda, after  five-day brainstorming sessions on improving the effectiveness of Water and Sanitation (WSS) regulation in the region.

Some of the papers delivered at the annual  conference are:

  • Driving transformative change through innovative regulation and overview of ESAWAS initiatives for enhancing effective regulation by the Executive Secretary, ESAWAS.
  • Effective Regulatory framework in an evolving sub-national Water Sector by Engr. Osalade Ayodele Ekiti State Water and Sanitation Regulatory Agency (EK-WASRA), Nigeria
  • Enhancing urban sanitation regulation: Lessons from Kampala, Uganda by Engr. Allan Nkurunziza Kampala Capital City Authority, Uganda
  • Developing a tariff policy for emerging utilities – experiences from Uganda by Engr. Christopher Tumusiime Water Utility Regulation Department, Uganda
  • SaniTracker Digital System by Eva Muhia eSanHub
  • Collaborative programmes to improve public policies and regulation at scale: lessons learnt by Rita Amaral LIS-Water, Portugal
  • Application of SERVQUAL model for the evaluation of water consumer satisfaction by Anselmo Munhequete Water and Sanitation Regulatory Authority (AURA, IP) Mozambique

Organised under the theme: ‘Initiatives for Regulatory Impact’, the 2023 conference highlighted initiatives developed or adopted by institutions with the regulatory mandate to drive sector improvements at policy, regulatory and service provision levels. This shows regulation’s beneficial role by demonstrating its impact on the sector.

The Regulators Conference was hosted by the Water Ministry of Water and Environment, Uganda.
