A workshop to assess the investment climate for Resource Recovery and Reuse (RRR) businesses in Nigeria will be held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on May 30, 2023.
Organised by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), the workshop will be attended by environmental, sanitation, water, and agriculture experts.
A statement issued by Dr Olufunke Cofie, IWMI Regional Representative West and Central Africa, stated that the rising global demand for water, food, and energy, in the context of a growing deficit and competing uses, reinforces the need for more investments in circular economy approaches through resource recovery and reuse (RRR) across the food, waste, and sanitation sectors.
‘The World Bank has developed an Ease of Doing Business Assessment Framework which sheds light on ten areas of business regulations and has administered it in Nigeria and other countries (World Bank, 2004). There is a need, particularly for the emerging RRR sector, to build on this by developing sector-specific factors and formulate an investment climate construct for the RRR businesses’.
Cofie further stated that the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) had developed a framework to assess the investment climate for Circular Bioeconomy in Nigeria and 15 other countries, which stakeholders will discuss in the forthcoming workshop.
