Six die of fresh Cholera outbreak in Ebonyi

Six people have died of new outbreak of Cholera in Akpoha community, Afikpo North Local Government Area (LGA) Ebonyi State, reports, eWASH’s volunteer, Dr Kelechuckwu Okezie. Over 100 people are also presently being treated of the disease.

Cholera is disease spread through contaminated water, causing diarrhoea and dehydration.

The disease outbreak initially started in late November 2022, spiking between 14 and 15 December 2022  in three other communities – (Amaleze, Obuchiri, Umuozoke, Iyionwe, Ndiagu Achi, and Amakpa) within Amaeze-Ezillo, Amaozanu-Ezillo, and Ezillo communities.

Dr Okezie who is the Executive Director of Abakaliki based Neighbourhood Environment Watch Foundation, reports that the Governor of Ebonyi State – David Nweze Umahi had visited the communities, promising to dig boreholes to curb the spread.
