The United Nations organised Groundwater Summit starts tomorrow in Paris, France.
Groundwater is water that collects or flows beneath the Earth’s surface, filling the porous spaces in soil, sediment, and rocks. Groundwater originates from rain and melting snow and ice and is the water source for aquifers, springs, and wells.
The three-day summit holding in both physical and virtual format, is expected to draw professionals and dignitaries from different parts of the world to discuss the theme: Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible
Discussions will centre around:
- Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) by making the invisible visible.
- Groundwater and the right to a healthy environment.
- Groundwater management and sustainable solutions for food and nature.
- Groundwater for Rural Water Supply.
- Enhancing the contribution of groundwater for water security.
