Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) is a $700m World Bank financed programme in seven states of the country.

Launched in 2021, SURWASH is expected to provide six million people with basic drinking water services and 1.4 million people access to improved sanitation services within six years.

This Environmental and Social Commitment Plan (ESCP) sets out a summary of the material measures and actions, any specific documents or plans, as well as the timing for each of these, including the timeframes of the actions and measures, institutional, staffing, training, monitoring and reporting arrangements, grievance management and the environmental and social assessments and instruments to be prepared or updated, disclosed, consulted, adopted and implemented under the ESCP and the ESSs, all in a manner acceptable to the Association
